A few thousand years later… (life updates)

A few thousand years later… (life updates)

I wonder how far this post can reach – far enough to catch my very few followers’ (if there still are) attention – but I will go ahead anyway.

So, it’s been quite a long time since my last post, which was posted on June 24th, 2021. Although slowly and sporadically, I kept reading and posting book reviews back then.

Shortly, a devastating event struck my aunt’s family. On a hot summer day, my cousin committed suicide and was discovered by his sister in the evening; I can hardly imagine how shocking and traumatic it must have been. My brother was immediately called away, and we visited her house as a family to offer our condolence. Both of them, particularly my aunt, looked desolate and haggard from lack of sleep, and even after my brother’s family went home, I decided to stay behind to offer them what little emotional support I could give.

I won’t go into much detail, but long story short, there were too many ups and downs in our lives then. We could barely put one foot in front of the other, which was pretty much all we could manage. When I think back to those days, it all feels like a daze, especially the first seven days leading up to his funeral. It was such a tumultuous time.

I also went into the biggest reading slump I had never experienced before. I attempted to read whatever book caught my eye – whether it be classic literature or cozy mystery – regardless of genre, only to find it was futile. I just couldn’t put my mind to it. Every story, no matter how highly acclaimed and wonderfully written it may be, I lost focus somewhere along the way and ended up never getting back to it.
So much so I haven’t finished even a single book since then.

That being said, I started to read again, and now I’ve been reading mainly non-fiction books. As I mentioned earlier, fiction comes across all fake to me (well, naturally). Please note that I have no intention of disregarding fiction lovers; I’m just telling you how I feel about fiction now.

I am not sure if I will ever be able to write book reviews again, but I might post book-related updates and whatnot every now and then.

I visited my blog for the first time in nearly two years and was glad to find some of my friends are still around and doing well.
Hopefully, I get to reconnect with them and have an opportunity to catch up.

That concludes my life updates. Thanks for visiting my blog, and I hope you all stay healthy and take care of yourself.

    1. Thanks Yesha 🙂 It’s so nice to hear from you again. By the way, I mixed up – it was not my nephew but cousin. I am losing my English 🤣
How have you been? I hope I can go back to blogging again.

  2. Hi, Noriko, and thanks for the update. I’m so sorry to hear about your cousin. My father took his life in 2005 so I’m no stranger to this topic unfortunately.
I’m only sporadically reading these days myself. Many of life’s events have had me too distracted to concentrate or stay focused. I’m doing more audiobooks lately. I miss reading and hope I can get back to where I used to be.
Great to see your posts again when I pop in.
    Take care. 🤗

    1. Thank you, Laurie and am so sorry about your father. Losing my cousin was indeed shocking, but losing your father must have been even more devastating, I bet…
Sounds like we’re on the same boat as far as reading goes, but likewise, I hope I can get back to be an avid reader again.
Take care to you too, Laurie 🙂
